Warm Up With More Winter Books

Cold, dark January nights got you down? Grab a cup of hot chocolate and some fuzzy blankets, light a roaring fire in your fireplace, and cozy up with some of these winter themed books!

Anna’s Wish by: Bruno Hachler tells of a young girl who lives in a city where it hasn’t snowed in ages. Anna longs to know what it feels like to catch snowflakes on her tongue, make snowmen, and woosh down a hill on a sled so she makes a wish on a horse statue in a bakery window. As if by magic, it begins to snow for the first time in decades; a reminder of the simple joys of childhood.

Wintercake by: Lynne Rae Perkins follows an unlikely pair of friends- a groundhog and a cardinal who are all set to bake their wintercake except that groundhog’s basket of dried fruit has gone missing. Cardinal tracks down the thief at the local tea shop and follows him intending to get the fruit back by any means until she discovers that the thief is actually a good Smartian returning the fruit. Ground hog and Cardinal are so thankful they share their freshly baked confection with their new friend.

Mice Skating by: Annie Silvestro is about Lucy, the happy-go-lucky little mouse that loves all things snow and cold. Lucy wants nothing more than to share her love of winter and ice skating (or mice skating in this case) with all her friends, but they refuse to leave the warmth of their cozy little tunnel. Finally, after many ‘cheesy’ puns, Lucy’s friends emerge from their nest to discover that they too love ‘mice skating’.
